Some of us snore without urgent need for specialised treatment. Some of us do snore like an elephant, and those are in an urgent need for specialised treatment to be able to stop snoring.
There are different types of snore.
We should remember that even a baby snores and snoring is a common problem, the seriousness of the snoring depends on the type.
Two groups of Snoring
Primary snoring is a snore which has no effect to the people around you and does not require specialised treatment and the patient will be able to stop snoring with little adjustment. This type of snore is characterised by
• Normal breathing
• Continuous
• Rhythmic
• Blockage of the nose due to rhinitis or allergies
• Blockage due to swelling of the adenoids and tonsils.
• Smoking and second-hand smoking
• Sleep medications
• Alcohol
• Deviated septum
Sleep Apnea Also spelled Sleep Apneoa relates to the second type of snoring, and it addresses the urgent need for treatment to be able to stop snoring, because it actually deprives the person from sleep as well as their partners.
The medical profession says that the person never enters into the REM sleep phase. See the links on the left for an explanation on the REM (rapid eye movement) sleep phase. This is a very important part of the sleep phase, as one enters into a very deep sleep during that time.
The medical name for this extreme form of snoring is called sleep apnoea. In the US it is spelled as apnea. The meaning of the word "Apnoea" is the Temporary absence or cessation of breathing.
The sufferer actually stops breathing during the occurrence of the apnoea. It actually deprives the person from oxygen during the time of the apnea (apnoea).
Sleep apnoea forms part of the general term "Sleeping Disorders". The reason for the apnoea could originate from obstruction (obstructive sleep apnoea) or from the brain (Central Sleep Apnoea).
The purpose of treatment is to assist the person to stop snoring.
Where does this sound come from?
The snoring sound is formed by a narrowing of the throat and the vibration of the soft tissue during the sleep. If the narrowing is corrected it assists with the stop snoring.
What happens during Sleep Apnea?
for stop snoring and your sleep apnea.
During sleep apnea (apnoea) the soft tissue in the throat actually obstructs the airway of the patient, which causes the stop breathing sensation. During this period a short period occurs when the person are stop snoring, followed by short repetition of snores, which are actually gasps for oxygen.
